New York State Assembly District 100 (Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster Counties)
Thomas J. Kirwan is a lifelong resident of the City of Newburgh. He is a graduate of the Newburgh Public School system. Kirwan received a Bachelor of Arts in History & Political Science from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh. Tom Kirwan served 28 years in the New York State Police, retiring as a Lieutenant in the Bureau of Criminal Investigations. He spent his last four years in Manhattan in the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force investigating mid to upper level drug dealers in New York City. Tom is a member of the Board of Directors of Our Lady of Comfort, a shelter for battered women, and he is a member of the civic organization UNICO in Newburgh, participating in various charitable projects. Assemblyman Kirwan represents the 100th Assembly District, which is comprised of the Town and City of Newburgh in Orange County, the cities of Beacon and Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County, and the Ulster County towns of Marlboro, Lloyd and Shawangunk. He is the Ranking Minority Member of the Assembly Committee on Cities and a member of the committees on Education, Codes as well as Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. Kirwan is also a member of the Legislative Commission on Toxic Substances and Hazardous Wastes. The Assemblyman and his wife, Verna, reside in Newburgh and have two children, Victoria and Matthew. |
